There are approximately 450 persons known to have been buried in the graveyard at the Basilica of St. Peter, but only about 170 family names show up in the records. For larger or more prominent name-sharing groups, there is often a central monument, perhaps with several names, and other markers nearby. Sometimes those markers are inside a fence or marked-off area. This section will focus on some of those groups and the most prominent markers in the cemetery. The more prominent markers can often serve as landmarks to assist in finding others.
