Here are a father and son buried closely. Dad Jacob, on the left was a native of Genoa, Italy, and died March 3, 1840, at age 40. The marker was erected by his brother Dominico Longinotti.
Son Robert, on the right, was a native of Madrid, Spain, and died in April, 1859, age 17. There must be an interesting story there. If Robert had been born, presumably in Spain, December 3, 1840, nine months after the death of his dad, he would have been over 18 at the time of his death. No mention of Mrs. Longinotti. These inscriptions are no longer readable, and it is quite possible that a mistake was made even in 1936 with the WPA copying of inscriptions. Here is what they wrote.
It would be nice to know what happened to Uncle Dominico. A quick search on the web turns up this story of a Dominico Longinotti who apparently was undeservedly stabbed in a New York City bar, just twelve years after Robert was buried in Columbia. Here is the source.
